A common side effect of Ketoconazole is skin irritation, which can cause pimple-like bumps in areas where it gets used. It can also cause oiliness or dryness of the hair and skin, abnormal hair texture, or discoloration.
For those with permed hair, your hair may lose its curl.
There are also some rare side effects, such as hair loss.
Signs of an Allergic Reaction
One thing that's important to note is that allergic reactions to shampoos that contain Ketoconazole are extremely rare. However, they do occur.
Signs of an allergic reaction can include:
- Swelling of the tongue, throat, or face
- Severe itching
- Difficulty breathing
- Dizziness
- Rash
If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention. Ketoconazole shampoos should not be used by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
They should also not be used by anyone under the age of 12. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under the age of 12, a doctor should be consulted before using a shampoo with Ketoconazole.
